melancholy.

 personality  Melancholy is brilliant, theatrical, and endlessly curious, treating life as a stage and every new fascination as a puzzle begging to be solved. Beneath the charm and neon glamour lies an obsessive streak, capable of fixating on people, ideas, or experiences with startling intensity. To know Melancholy is to be swept into the orbit of a star that constantly threatens to burn hotter than it was ever meant to.

neon club lights. dancing silhouettes beneath hololight projections. violet lightning cracking through crystalline prisms. sleepless nights in glowing laboratories. chrome reflections and makeup mirrors. illusory  glamour  magic and overcharged arcane circuitry.

 euphoria 

you meet him at Euphoria Protocol, a grungy underground club where fights break out in the pit and drunks always charge the stage. it's one of the few places melancholy hasn't been banned  because chaos  and euphoria go hand-in-hand. some dubious folks you'll find include counterfeit soul-sellers, substances dealers, and hackers. bring your own booze.

 s9 academy 

You are a fellow alumni of the Solution 9 Academy, maybe a rival, former partner, someone he cheated on, someone he bullied, or barely remembers. as a child he attended classes through a lecture  bot because  he felt so misunderstood he'd lash out and get banned from physically entering school.

 acquisition 

You possess (or know of) a rare piece of tech, spell component, magical core, or artifact that has become the object of his obsession. melancholy wants access, and knows he needs to go through you to get it. he's been  tracking  you for days, weeks, moons, and when he makes contact you must decide whether to help, or send him packing.

 experiment 

Whether willingly or not, your character once participated in a glamour, technomancy, or aetheric research project Melancholy was involved with during his academy years. The results may have been  groundbreaking,  embarrassing, dangerous, or entirely forgotten by him until he sees you again.

 obsession 

Your character possesses knowledge in a field Melancholy finds irresistible: ancient civilizations, rare magicks, voidsent studies, relics, soulcraft, engineering, fashion, music, or anything equally niche. He may not like you at first, but he'll want to  pick your brain  until something more meaningful develops.

 the mistake 

At some point, Melancholy's curiosity got him in trouble, and your character helped him escape the consequences or suffered alongside him. it could have been an experimental device that exploded, a nightclub incident, an expedition to proto-alexandria  gone wrong,  or a civil trial that became local lore. Whatever happened, neither of them forgot it.

His older sister and an accomplished nurse, Dioptase graduated from the same academy years before him. She remains one of the few people capable of scolding Melancholy into compliance, a  talent honed  through years of practice.

An employment officer of Resolution who has spent years attempting to secure Melancholy a respectable government position. Their relationship has devolved into an ongoing battle of harassment reports, excuses,  and increasingly  creative resignation letters.

A cyber jazz singer with a synthetic vocal implant, capable of singing at frequencies that can sooth, or disorient. pippiny has known Melancholy since childhood, and was one of his few friends  during his difficult  years as a problematic youth.

A fellow academy alumnus who alternates between collaborating with Melancholy's research and trying to prevent it from becoming a public safety concern. Their friendship survives on mutual curiosity and an  alarming  tolerance for bad decisions.

A nightclub owner, information broker, and shameless gossip who always seems to know where Melancholy is before he arrives. Whether friend, accomplice, or enabler depends entirely on the  evening.

An artisan of glamour prisms and custom arcane devices who frequently supplies Melancholy with components for his projects. She claims she only works with him because he pays well;  nobody believes  her.

A spear hunter known for charging into danger and trusting Melancholy to get her back out again. Their partnership developed after he used his illusion magic over the course of several hunts to create openings for her  reckless  engagements.

A quiet hunter who lost several companions during a disastrous hunt years ago. most people know Melancholy for his charm and theatrics, Ashen knows the patient mage who spends hours helping hunters recover from injuries,  exhaustion,  and grief after a long hunt.
